At just 33 years old, Uwizeyimana Rachel carries a weight most people never know. She is a widow, raising four children on her own—and doing so in a house that is dangerously close to collapse.

Built from old wood and mud plaster, the home has deteriorated to the point that it is barely standing. The structure shifts with the wind, groans under the weight of the rain, and offers no real security to the family who calls it home.

Rachel doesn’t need to be told how serious the condition is—she lives it every day. She sees it in the leaking roof, the drafty walls, the broken doors that no longer protect. She hears it in her children’s voices when they wonder what happens if the house finally gives way.

Still, she presses on.

She provides. She nurtures. She hopes.

But no mother should have to raise her children under the threat of losing what little shelter they have.
