Uwayezu Gaudance

A New Chapter—But No Room to Breathe

At 30 years old, Uwayezu Gaudance is already living her second chapter. After walking through the pain of divorce, she’s remarried and now raising three children in a house that’s hardly big enough to hold their hope, let alone their lives.

The home is just 4×8 meters, made of old wood and mud plaster—fragile materials that have long passed their intended lifespan. Inside, the walls are thin, the doors are broken, the roof offers little relief from the elements, and space is tight. Every day is a challenge to keep her children safe, dry, and growing.

And yet—Gaudance does what mothers do.

She stretches every resource. She holds her family together.

But what she cannot stretch is the size or safety of her home.

What this family needs isn’t complicated.

They need a roof that keeps out the rain.

They need walls that won’t give way.

They need doors that close, and windows that open to light.

Most of all, they need room to live—not just exist.
