Harerimana Sylvestre

Three Children. One Small Room. And the Urgent Need for Change.

We don’t know his age. We don’t know his marital status. But what we do know about Harerimana Sylvestre tells us everything we need to understand the urgency of his situation.

He’s a father—raising three children in a house made of aged wood and crumbling mud plaster. At just 6 by 7 meters, the structure offers little more than shelter in name. There’s not enough space, not enough light, and not enough strength left in the walls to keep this family safe.

The roof needs replacing. The rooms need expanding.

The doors barely function. The windows no longer shield from wind or rain.

And beyond the structure itself, there is another silent danger: lack of hygiene education.

In homes like this, sickness spreads quickly. Simple illnesses become threats. Children suffer not because of what they have done, but because of what their living conditions cannot prevent.

Still, Sylvestre keeps going. He keeps providing. He keeps loving his children the best way he knows how.
